Fall 2021 - Virtual Volunteer Opportunity
Accepting applications through August 10th, or until positions have been filled!
Serve Virtually ~ Impact Globally
Our Virtual Impact Program connects volunteers from across the globe with our students in Latin America. Applications are now open for our volunteer Lead Teacher position to serve young students enrolled in our Virtual English Academy during the fall 2021 semester. Gain online international leadership and English as a Foreign Language experience while making a lifetime impact on young students throughout Latin America. You’ll connect 5 days a week for a weekly total of 15 virtual service hours and use your background as a professional educator to provide our students with English instruction and inspire them to create opportunities for their futures. Join us as we bridge cultures digitally and inspire and empower each other to reach our full potential. All it takes is a computer, an internet connection, and a passion for service.
There is an option to serve an additional 5 hours each week leading English enrichment activities that provide our students with further practice, or leading Spanish enrichment activities that expand our students' horizons, develop their critical thinking skills, and teach them about the world.
Be 25 years of age or older (by September 2021)
Have 3 or more years experience as a teacher/educator, online or in-person, for any age level, or comparable experience leading/directing youth programs
Be a native or near-native English speaker
Be proficient in the use of Zoom (tutorials are available online)
Be available to commit to 15 hours of service each week for the full semester
Agree to be on the fundraising team and help recruit future volunteers
Have access to a computer or laptop (a phone or tablet is not sufficient for this position)
Have a strong and consistent internet connection

Knowledge of Spanish is not required for this virtual volunteer position, but at least some Spanish is preferred since most of our students are young beginners. However, if you would like to serve an additional 5 hours each week leading Spanish enrichment activities, native or advanced Spanish skills (speaking, reading, and writing) are required.
While teaching experience is required for this position, experience teaching English as a Foreign Language or English Language Learners is not required. Your first 2 weeks of the semester will consist of training in these areas, and you will be encouraged to continue independent professional development throughout the course of the semester.

Frequently Asked Questions
How will I benefit from volunteering?
You will gain invaluable teaching and leadership skills as well as experience in English as a Foreign Language. Volunteering with English Language Learners in a virtual environment will also help you grow your creativity, adaptability, communication skills, confidence, and comfort working virtually - an increasingly prevalent skillset.
How will Outreach360 Virtual English Academy students benefit from my service?
English is a highly sought-after skill for our students and their communities. Opportunities to learn from native and near-native English speakers are few and far between, not to mention costly, so this is an unparalleled service you can offer. The time you spend with students will have an incredible impact on their education and inspire them to get excited about furthering their English learning. In addition, as a professional educator, your expertise and mentorship of the English Teachers that may teach alongside you improves the overall quality of Outreach360's English instruction and enrichment activities for our students. Not only that, but the funds you raise provide this opportunity at no cost to our students' families. We can guarantee that taking time out of your week to serve our students will make a real difference.
Will I need to dedicate time outside of my volunteer hours to prepare?
No, any preparation will take place within your 15 hours each week.
Will I be teaching by myself?
It depends on your class. Teaching beginners can be more effective with two teachers as it allows you to better model for the students or split the group into breakout rooms for certain activities. You may be paired with another Lead Teacher, or with an English Teacher ages 18 and up who will teach alongside you and may not have any previous experience. It's also possible that you will teach by yourself.
If you opt for the additional 5 hours a week, you will lead enrichment activities alongside volunteers 13 and up.
Will I have support from Outreach360?
Yes, your first 2 weeks of service will be dedicated to training, so you'll have the knowledge necessary to teach Outreach360 Virtual English Academy students prior to your first class. After that, there will be a weekly leadership meeting on Mondays, and you'll be able to ask for support as needed.
Why is fundraising required?
Outreach360 is committed to providing powerful opportunities to students in Latin America at no cost to them or their families. This is made possible by our virtual volunteers who donate their time and commit to raising and or donating the funds required to sponsor these programs.
Why is there an application and selection process?
The Outreach360 Virtual English Academy is a rigorous program in which the students receive daily instruction. The goal of our application process is to get to know the personality and skills of our applicants in order to determine the best fit for our students and all parties involved.
