I Love Being Her Teacher

Outreach360 has a big impact on many families in the communities that we serve. We decided to take a deeper look into some of those families this month and learn more about them and their experience with the Outreach360 community.

Meet Josué and Dulce

Josué and Dulce are brother and sister from Jinotega, Nicaragua. Josué was not able to enroll in our Learning Center as a young boy so instead, he made a point of attending all of our Learning Camps in his neighborhood. When the time came for Dulce to join our program in 2017, Josué decided to also start coming to the Learning Center, but as a volunteer teacher. He had learned English in our camps, as well as through a private tutor. Now, this sibling duo is receiving a lot from their Outreach360 experience, albeit in very different ways.

Josué

Why do you like volunteering at the Learning Center? I love coming to Outreach360. I first learned English through fun games at Learning Camps with Outreach360. I like that I can volunteer at the Learning Center to support many children to be good people in the future.

What do you think of sharing this experience with your sister?

I enjoy sharing time at the Learning Center with my younger sister and I love being her teacher because before I started to volunteer, she didn’t have the confidence to ask me about stuff but now she does. I like that Outreach360 has woken up her curiosity.

What hopes do you have for the future? This question is very difficult for me. Before I came here, I thought that I wanted to be a lawyer but as time passes, I have figured out that I wasn’t born to be a lawyer because in the future, what I would like to do is support others. I would like to study something that allows me to be outside for part of the time. I don’t know exactly what I want to study.

Is there anything you would like to say to your teachers and donors? As a local volunteer teacher, I would like to say thank you to each of the donors that support the Learning Center students to make their dreams a reality. I want the donors to know that they are an important part of the Outreach360 family.

Dulce

Why do you like coming to the Learning Center? I am increasingly confident that I will have great opportunities in the future. Because of the diverse activities, English doesn't bore us.

What do you think of sharing this experience with your brother? Beautiful. Because my older brother and I both share the same feelings towards Outreach360.

What hopes do you have for the future? I want to keep learning English and then support others to learn English. I want to teach my mom English. I would like to study dentistry in the United States.

How is Outreach360 helping to make that possible?

Outreach360 is helping me do well at my regular school because it helps me with my Spanish, math, and English.

Is there anything you would like to say to your teachers and donors? Thank you very much for your support, understanding, and belief in us.
