Virtual Teaching Internship

February 20th to April 24th, 2021

This Spring, Outreach360 is offering a unique remote teaching internship. For 2 hours each Saturday for 10 weeks, you will be teaching beginner to advanced level English Language Learners in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Through a structured English curriculum and professional teacher training, you will have all the tools you need to lead engaging and effective English lessons.

(Note: The Outreach360 Virtual Internship Program beginning in January is full.  Due to strong demand from students and interns, we have opened this second session beginning in February. Please join us!)

With the support of a professional leadership team and curriculum, you will be providing the essential service of an English education to Outreach360 students.  This unique chance at learning English will not only benefit our students in being able to learn a new language but exposes them to new ways of thinking, inspires them to dream big, and empowers them to lead a life that they choose for themselves. The true impact Outreach360 volunteers have on our students is nearly unquantifiable.

In addition to the invaluable teaching experience, you will also enhance your teaching knowledge through a professional teacher training curriculum created for your development. You will have access to dozens of professional education modules, including:

  • How to Make a Virtual Classroom

  • Making Online Classes More Active and Interactive

  • Tips for Engaging Students in Online English Language Learning

  • Formative Assessment for the Student-Centered Classroom

  • Teaching Lower Levels

  • Teaching Science & Math to English Language Learners

  • Teaching Students of Different Abilities and Learning Styles

  • Visual Thinking Strategies, Working With Images, and Viewing

  • Foundations of TESOL Methodology

  • How We Think and How It Affects Language Learning

  • & more!

The highlight of my remote intern experience was watching my students grow. I saw their confidence expand in ways that honor their voice and show they are leaders in their communities and classrooms. Become an Outreach360 remote intern! You are allowing students to push their own levels of creativity, leadership, and motivation in the classroom. You will feel happiness unlike any other, knowing that your students learned new vocabulary every day and saw their own potential. You make a huge difference in their lives, even without realizing it. Thank you to everyone! I will never forget this opportunity. I have learned so much.

Our Commitment to Education Equality

Outreach360 is committed to providing powerful opportunities to students in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic at no cost to them or their families. This is made possible by our interns who donate their time and commit to raising and donating the funds required to sponsor these programs.

As part of the registration process, we ask all of our interns to raise or donate a minimum program donation of $400 USD prior to participating in the 10-week internship. A $100 donation is required upon registering as a good faith deposit and the remaining program donation must be raised or donated.

Your minimum program donation not only goes hand-in-hand with your service, but it also ensures the following benefits as a part of your experience:

  • A professionally trained leadership team

  • Training and support

  • Confirmation of service hours

Am I eligible to participate in the internship?

Outreach360's internship has been specifically designed for high school students (grades 10-12 only) and college students that enjoy working with and serving children and youth. We also welcome anybody who is post-secondary that has a desire to make a difference. You will need to be proficient using Zoom, however we are happy to offer pre-internship training to ensure you are prepared. We also ask that you raise and/or donate a one-time program donation of $400. We will provide a fundraising page and resources to help you be successful in raising those funds.

How long is the internship?

The internship runs for ten weeks total, beginning in February and ending in April. Teaching and planning time is incorporated into every day's two hour session.

What is the cost to participate in the program?

There is a minimum program donation of $400 USD if teaching once weekly, and $650 if teaching twice weekly, required for the 10-week internship. Each intern must be registered on our website with a $100 USD deposit due upon registration. The remaining program donation needs to be raised/donated. Each intern will receive a personal donation page and family and friends are invited to contribute. All donations are tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers.

How much Spanish do I need to know?

You are not required to know any Spanish to participate in this internship. You will be teaching English throughout your internship in English-only classrooms. Our students are accustomed to immersive-style lessons and will be up to the challenge.

How will I benefit from participating in this internship?

In this internship, you will be making a real difference with students in underserved areas of Latin America by empowering them through the unique opportunity of learning English. You will also gain invaluable skills working with and instructing English Language Learners. And the connections you make will make every day of this internship a truly magical experience. Additionally, Outreach360's virtual impact programs help you to grow in working and serving remotely, an increasingly prevalent skillset.

How will Outreach360 students benefit from my service?

The students participating in Outreach360's programs receive the opportuities that volunteers like you provide at no cost to them or their families. This unique chance at learning English will not only benefit our students in being able to learn a new language but exposes them to new ways of thinking, inspires them to dream big, and empowers them to lead a life that they choose for themselves. The true impact Outreach360 volunteers have on our students is nearly unquantifiable.

What will be expected of me throughout the 10 weeks?

We expect you to treat this internship like any other job experience. We expect you to be professional and follow the guidelines we have in place to support and protect you and our students. We also expect you to be in communication if a conflict comes up that would prevent you from meeting your internship expectations.

Why is there a cost to participate in this internship?

Outreach360 is proud to be able to inspire and empower children in Latin America with educational, leadership, and service opportunities at no cost to them or their families. A student's ability to participate in our program regardless of their socio-economic status is crucial to our vision that everybody deserves to reach their full potential. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit, meaning that practically all of our funding comes from donations. For this reason, we consider ourselves both a volunteer and fundraising organization. We have always asked that our volunteers contribute to the sustainability of the programs that we host by raising a minimum program donation to help cover program costs. This allows our students to continue to receive opportunities beyond the length of a volunteer's service time. We understand that these are extraordinary times and that fundraising can seem intimidating, but we really encourage our volunteers to think of it as an opportunity to share this experience with others. We also provide a customizable fundraising page with helpful language and resources to be successful.
