Summer Virtual Internship for Spanish Students
Thank you for your interest in summer volunteering opportunities with Outreach360!  Our summer program is now full!  We will have virtual volunteer opportunities available this Fall; please check back!

Outreach360 is offering a unique two-way language learning summer internship. With just a two-hour commitment Monday-Friday for three weeks, you will provide our students with the valuable opportunity of practicing their English skills with native and like-native English speakers through interactive activities, games, and lessons. In turn, our students will be able to give back by sharing about their countries, cultures, and traditions with you in small-group Spanish conversations.

Owen Frank, SUNY Geneseo, NY

Children across Latin America are eager to learn English, an invaluable and widely inaccessible skill. As an Outreach360 intern, you will have the unique opportunity of being one of the first people to teach English to students in Latin America at no cost to them or their families.  Each day, you will be provided with a new set of English resources geared to your students’ level. You may receive a set of presentation slides or be directed to an interactive online English game, but ultimately the goal is for you to get your students engaging with you and each other in English.

The second half of each day's internship session will be devoted to small-group Spanish conversations. In these conversations, our students will share topics that relate to the culture of their countries. Topics could include geography, food, tourism, health care, agriculture, slangs/expressions, and more. This is an incredible opportunity to practice your Spanish with native Spanish speakers, learn about other parts of the world, and empower our students to give back what they receive by sharing their knowledge with you!

Outreach360 is committed to providing powerful opportunities to students in Latin America at no cost to them or their families. This is made possible by our interns who donate their time and commit to raising and donating the funds required to sponsor these programs.

As part of the internship, we ask all of our interns to raise or donate a minimum program donation of $600 USD prior to participating in the 3-week internship. A $100 donation is required upon registering as a deposit and the remaining program donation can be raised or donated directly. Each intern receives a personal fund-raising page on our website. All donations are tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers.

One 3-Week Session: $600

Two 3- Week Sessions: $1100

Three  3-Week Sessions: $1500

Why Outreach360?

You will make a real difference. English is a highly sought-after skill for our students and their communities, and opportunities to learn from native and near-native English speakers are few and far between, not to mention costly. We can guarantee that taking time out of your week to introduce English to Outreach360 students will make a real difference.

You will receive an authentic cultural experience. Each week, you will be learning more about the countries our students are from. Through interactive materials, such as images and videos, alongside your students' knowledge, you will be receiving a truly authentic cultural experience.

Who is eligible to participate in the internship?

Outreach360's internship has been specifically designed for high school students (Grades 10-12) who have two years or more Spanish classroom experience. You should enjoy working with and serving children and youth. You will need to be proficient using Zoom, but we are happy to offer pre-internship training to ensure you are prepared. We also ask that you raise and/or donate a minimum program donation. We will provide a fundraising page and resources to help you be successful in raising those funds.

How long is the internship?

The internship runs for three weeks total, Monday to Friday. The internship takes place every Saturday for two hours, at a time slot of your choosing (9:00 to 11:00 AM ET or 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM ET).

What is the cost to participate in the program?

As part of the registration process, we ask all of our interns to raise or donate a minimum program donation of $600 USD prior to participating in the 3-week internship. A $100 donation is required upon registering as a good faith deposit and the remaining program donation must be raised or donated. The minimum program donation for two sessions (six weeks) is $1100, and $1500 for three sessions (nine weeks). Each intern will receive a personal donation page and family and friends are invited to contribute. All donations are tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers.

How much Spanish do I need to know?

The internship is designed for students who have taken two or more years of Spanish in school.

How will I benefit from participating in this internship?

In this internship, you will be making a real difference with students in underserved areas of Latin America by empowering them through this unique opportunity. Our students also have a lot to offer by sharing about their own cultures and customs while also helping you practice your Spanish! More than anything, the connections you make will make every day of this internship a truly magical experience. Additionally, Outreach360's virtual impact programs help you to grow in working and serving remotely, an increasingly prevalent skillset.

How will Outreach360 students benefit from my service?

The opportunity to practie with a native and like-native English speaker is an unparalleled service you can offer our students. The time you spend with them will have an incredible impact in their education and inspire them to get excited about English learning. Not only that, but the program donation you raise during your registration process provides this opportunity at no cost to our students or their families.

Will I need to dedicate time outside of the internship to prepare for each session?

There is no requirement to plan in advance for the time with your students other than reviewing the resources provided to you and having them open on your computer ready to use when you connect. If you would like to go above and beyond, you are more than welcome to get more creative and add to your planned sessions.

What will be expected of me throughout the 3 weeks?

We expect you to treat this internship like any other job experience. We expect you to be professional and follow the guidelines we have in place to support and protect you and our students. We also expect you to be in communication if a conflict comes up that would prevent you from meeting your internship expectations.

Why is there a cost to participate in this internship?

Outreach360 is proud to be able to inspire and empower children in Latin America with educational, leadership, and service opportunities at no cost to them or their families. A student's ability to participate in our program regardless of their socio-economic status is crucial to our vision that everybody deserves to reach their full potential. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit, meaning that practically all of our funding comes from donations. For this reason, we consider ourselves both a volunteer and fundraising organization. We have always asked that our volunteers contribute to the sustainability of the programs that we host by raising a minimum program donation to help cover program costs. This allows our students to continue to receive opportunities beyond the length of a volunteer's service time. We understand that these are extraordinary times and that fundraising can seem intimidating, but we really encourage our volunteers to think of it as an opportunity to share this experience with others. We also provide a customizable fundraising page with helpful language and resources to be successful.
