New Neighborhood Center Opens in Jinotega, Nicaragua

We signed a contract in November 2011 to rent a small house in the German Pomares neighborhood close to our volunteer house in Jinotega, Nicaragua. This house is the site of our very first neighborhood center in Jinotega and we have invited primary school aged children in grades 1-3 to participate in English, Spanish literacy & Community Health educational programs with us at this new center!  Poco a Poco the house is turning into a great little neighborhood center.  We now have appropriate sized furniture and were able to paint both the inside and the outside of the house.  We are starting to have a core group of students and are still open for registration.  The families in the neighborhood have been excited to have us in their neighborhood working with their children.  It's not uncommon for families to stop by daily to see how everything is going.  We hope to start with a formal English as a Foreign Language curriculum this Spring and we are excited to see the impact of our upcoming Spring teams and our long term volunteers this summer!
